Where I'm From
by:Naima Orozco
I am from Mexican Art
vivid colors dancing on the canvas.
From the rich smell of carne asada
drifting into my room late at night.
I am from laughter slowly making its way to me.
Quiet but loud,
Soft but hard.
I am from cactus brushing against my legs.
The fountain soothingly putting me to sleep.
The family
In which I entrust all that I have.
I am from those gentle hands soothing me when I cry.
Assuring me that everything will be alright.
"No llores"
Making me feel at peace with life.
